MSN Messenger Support for JAWS for Pocket PC
Version 1.00, build 1
Copyright (c) 2003, Alternate Timelines Software
Thank you for downloading the MSN Instant Messenger support for JAWS for Pocket PC. This adds the following support from within MSN Instant Messenger:
- Automatic speaking of incoming messages. You no longer need to either use the JAWS Cursor to read the message window, or go out of your way to leave the MSN Messenger application to ensure that you receive your messages.
- Automatically enters the "sign in" dialog upon application start.
- Hot key to sign in/out.
- Tools keyboard layer, allowing two keystroke access to every option on the Tools menu (use Alt+T on TNS, and dots 2-3-4-5-7 chord on BNS).
- List of available commands within the Tools layer with either Alt+T, then F1 or Dots 2-3-4-5-7 chord, then question mark.
- Hot key to bring up the list of available chats.
- Context sensitive help.
- Get a list of all available commands by using JAWS Key+F1, then M (Dots 1-4-5-6 chord, then M on PAC Mate BNS).
Known problems
- The tab key, despite my best attempts, will not seem to actually change focus to the message log. I'm working on this.
- Whether this script works with the PAC Mate BNS as advertised, and whether the help messages are completely accurate, is untested by me at time of release.
- The typing sound effect given whilst the person with whom you are chatting is typing a message, and whether it repeats at reasonable intervals, have not been tested.
Installation Instructions
The script binaries are provided in a single cabinet file, MSNScripts.cab, suitable for direct download and install to your Pocket PC. To install directly to your Pocket PC, from Pocket Internet Explorer, do the following:
- Click on the download link.
- Check the box that requests that you open the file after downloading.
- You should be presented, after a short time, with a dialog box stating that Alternate Timelines Software MSN Scripts for JAWS is being installed.
To install using ActiveSync:
- Download the file to your PC.
- Connect your PAC Mate to your PC, ensuring that ActiveSync launches as it's supposed to.
- Open your Mobile Device folder by clicking File, then Explore.
- Open the folder that contains the MSNScripts.cab file that you just downloaded.
- Copy the file from the download directory on your PC to the root folder of your Mobile Device.
- On your Mobile Device, open File Explorer, and browse to My Documents.
- Hit ENTER on MSNScripts.cab. The scripts should then be installed.
The installation package for the Pocket PC places a text file, MSNReadme.txt, in the My Documents folder of your mobile device, that gives a feature overview of the scripts. Once installed, from within MSN, you can press JAWS Key+F1, then M (Question mark chord, then M on Braille keyboards) for a list of every keyboard shortcut implemented. Enjoy.
If anyone has any feature suggestions, suggestions for improvements, commendations, or offers for free ice cream or coffee, by all means email me. My email address, certainly for the next while, is chrism@pacmategear.com.
